We are excited to announce that our co-founder and director, Kelsey Treloar, has been recognised in The Mercury’s influential Empire Builders: Tasmania’s Top 20 Young Entrepreneurs list. This honour is a reflection of Kelsey’s outstanding leadership, innovative vision, and relentless drive in transforming the underwater robotics industry.
Kelsey’s journey from the heart of Tasmania to the global stage is an inspiring story of passion and perseverance. Over the past decade, Kelsey has led SoSub in developing pioneering technology that’s revolutionising ocean exploration. From navigating the icy waters of Antarctica to creating innovative systems that support sustainable aquaculture, Kelsey’s work is reshaping how we interact with the ocean and its ecosystems.
Since the founding of SoSub in 2017, Kelsey has driven the creation of the APAMA Net Repair System, a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) that inspects and repairs aquaculture nets at depths of up to 200m. This technology has become a game-changer in the aquaculture industry, significantly reducing the risks of diver-based operations and unlocking new global markets, including Norway, a leader in aquaculture.
But Kelsey’s vision extends far beyond these waters. He was instrumental in designing a specialised mini submersible for the Australian Antarctic Division, enabling groundbreaking research beneath the ice at the Davis research station. This innovation is uncovering hidden ecosystems and contributing to vital long-term environmental monitoring.
Being named one of Tasmania’s Top 20 Young Entrepreneurs is a recognition that Kelsey truly deserves. Under his leadership, SoSub has flourished, becoming a frontrunner in Tasmania’s blue-tech sector. His contributions span across aquaculture, polar science, and advanced manufacturing. This award not only highlights Kelsey’s professional achievements but also celebrates his commitment to fostering a sustainable and innovative future for ocean technology.
